3 Days in A Remote Island Village in Japan - 本州から3時間離れた隠岐の島

  • Share this:

Earlier this month I had the amazing opportunity to visit the remote Oki Islands off of Shimane Prefecture. 3 hours by ferry from the mainland, this collection of islands is completely self-sustaining and doesn't need to rely on the mainland very much at all.

With over 20 young recruits living on the island under the work experience program, the island itself is full of life and fresh ideas and it was really cool to talk to some of the kids there about why they choose to live so far away from the rest of Japan.

The islands are also hosting Micronesia for the summer games, and have worked really hard to foster a bond between the country and the small island village.

This is somewhere I'd love to visit again in the future!
